CLASSROOM RULES
1. Respect others
2. Listen when the teacher is talking
3. Follow directions
4. Always do your best
There are many rules in life and many reasons why rules are important. Lots of rules are designed to keep us safe. In school we need rules because all students are entitled to learn. Some things that you do may interfere with the learning of other students, and may also disrupt your own learning. These classroom rules are in place to ensure that we all have the best possible learning experience.
THE RULES EXPLAINED |
Rule number 1: Respect others Respect is a very powerful word that means many things. It means that students will be kind to each other. Students will use kind words, and will respect each other student's personal space. It also means that students will value the ideas and beliefs of others, and that students will work together to help each other to learn. The teacher respects you, and you are expected to respect the teacher, and to respect other students as well. Here is another teacher's classroom rules video that really focuses nicely on respect. |
Rule number 2: Listen when the teacher is talking This really means that everyone needs to do two things. Be quiet when the teacher asks for your attention, and listen when the teacher is talking. The teacher will use a variety of ways to signal to you that your attention is needed. This may include dimming the lights, clapping hands, or counting down. Whenever you observe any of these signals you need to stop what you are doing, stop talking, look at the teacher, and listen. Our class will be doing a lot of fun things and activities that you do with other students, so it is very important that you listen when the teacher speaks so that you can quickly get the directions and the class can continue with the activities. |
Rule number 3: Follow directions This is a simple rule, but an important one. When the teacher gives you directions you need to follow them. If you are not sure about something or have a question, please raise your hand and the teacher will be happy to explain things further. |
Rule number 4: Always do your best In this class we are all going to be working together to challenge ourselves, and to grow and learn. No one expects you to be perfect. Making mistakes is part of learning. A lot of people think that we learn more from our mistakes than we do by getting things right. You are expected to always try hard, and make your best effort. The way that we learn is much more important than the end product. We all need to work hard and try our best in order to get the most out of school. |
These rules will be discussed to ensure that everyone understands what the rules mean and that everyone is comfortable with them. There will also be opportunities to practice some of the rules, such as listening and following directions, so that students will have the chance to become familiar with them and so that they will be able to successfully follow the rules.
If a student chooses not to follow the rules the teacher will remind the student of the rules. If the student still chooses not to follow the rules there will be consequences like losing free time.
Everyone can follow these rules so that we can all work together to help each other learn. The teacher has complete confidence that all students will do their best, follow directions, listen, and treat everyone with respect. The teacher is excited to have you in the classroom. We are all going to learn a tremendous amount this year!
