Sunflower Plant Project Example

This page is all about sunflowers because I think sunflowers are the most cheerful plant.  They are big and bright, and always stand out as the star of the garden.  Sunflowers also have many important uses for people and animals.  I love sunflowers, and I hope you'll learn something new about them!

Sunflowers are very interesting plants, did you know that...
  • The head of a sunflower looks like one flower, but it is actually made up of over 1,000 tiny flowers
  • Sunflowers usually grow to be 5 - 12 feet tall
  • Young sunflowers turn to follow the sun
  • Sunflowers originated in Central America
  • Sunflowers can be used to remove toxic substances from soil, such as lead, arsenic, and uranium
  • There are over 30 varieties of sunflowers

The life cycle of a sunflower

Sunflowers start as a tiny seed, and then start growing into a little plant called a seedling.  Then they become a mature plant.  It is the mature plant that grows the flower.  Finally, the mature plant goes to seed, which means the flower dies and gives off seeds to make more sunflowers.
